First days

Libby and Ellie First DayWhether this is the first time your child has attended an early childhood education service or they have attended prior to beginning with us, it is a big step.

We encourage families to visit with their children prior to beginning so they can become comfortable in the environment and get to know the children and teachers. This will help support the separation process on their first day.

On enrolment, each child receives a book specially made to give them a visual display of the daily routine. This is a great resource to read with your child prior to starting and talking with them about what they can expect.

On the first day it may be difficult to separate for either your child or yourself. Teachers have experience in supporting children through this experience. The best way to approach this is to spend a short period of time settling your child, let them know you are leaving and then say goodbye. It is best not to return if they are  upset as this may confuse them as to when you will actually be leaving.

Here at Peter Rabbit we believe children need a secure base to return to before they can confidently explore a new environment. We provide this for them through staying with them until they feel they are ready to play.

Starting at preschool is not only a big step for your child but also for you as a parent. We encourage you to ring throughout the day to check up on their progress.

All children are different and so are their experiences in beginning at preschool. We look forward to making this step as positive and easy for both you and your child.
